60 year old Zelikha Khalil is the owner of a general store in Kobane. There, they sell everything they can find at the moment. This is not much, as Zelikha says, because hardly any goods reach Kobane due to the closure of the border from Turkey to Syria. When the „Islamic State“ (ISIS) was advancing towards Kobane in September 2014, she fled to the Turkish border town Suruc together with her husband, then, when the city was liberated from ISIS, she returned to continue her store, that she found empty. With her income, she wants first of all to support her three daughters financially. | Kobane / Ain al-Arab (Kobane Canton / Aleppo Governorate, Syria), 21 June 2015

20 year old Mahmud Mustafa (l), together with his 16 year old employee Ahmad Ali (r), is standing behind the desk of his butcher store in Kobane. Mahmud has a flock of 200 sheep in a village near Kobane. At the beginning of the fights, he remained there, helped the „People's Defense Units“ (YPG) fighters slaughtering animals and supplied them with meat for free, Mahmud tells. Then he fled to Turkey with his sheep and returned to Kobane 4 months ago. One kilo of mutton costs 2000 Syrian pounds (approximately 9,50 Euro). People in Kobane can't afford this any more, so that they prefer to buy chicken, Mahmud says. | Kobane / Ain al-Arab (Kobane Canton / Aleppo Governorate, Syria), 22 June 2015
